Cybersecurity is the practice of protecting devices, systems and data from unauthorized access, attacks, or damage.
What can you do to protect your information?
Strong Passwords: Use unique, complex passwords for each online account. Consider a password manager and periodically change your passwords. If you are notified of an actual or potential breach from a third party which you have an account with, change your passwords immediately.
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA): Add an extra layer of security whenever possible by requiring a code or app approval before accessing your online accounts.
Phishing awareness: Don't click on suspicious links or open unexpected attachments. Verify sender details. This includes text messages as well. In addition, be aware of common phishing scams.
Safe browsing: Stick to trusted websites, avoid pop ups, and check for "https://" in the web address bar. This indicates a secured connection, therefore safer than a plan "http://" site .
Device updates: Important to keep your phone, tablet, computer, laptop and apps updated allowing them to have the latest patches that helps keep your devices and the information on those devices safe.
Wi-Fi safety: Use only secured networks when possible. Avoid public Wi-Fi from banking or sensitive work unless on a VPN (Virtual Private Network).
Data protection: Back up important files and avoid oversharing personal information online.
